Italian Course
- Venice Info
The method of transport favoured by
Bond in his high-octane chases through Venice is nothing new
to the Venetians. Because in Venice they use water, not tarmac.
With approximately 150 canals weaving through the city you're
better off taking a passenger ferry or good old-fashioned gondola
- a quicker, and without doubt more stylish, way to view the
stunning façades of the 12th century palazzos, old trading
houses and fish markets that line the waterways. The customary
evening passeggiata, or stroll, as the city lights up over the
water, will add that extra touch of mystery and romance should
you need any final convincing. Plus Points:
- Proximity to beaches
- Intricate canals & backstreets
- Abundance of churches & palaces
- Spectacular Carnevale festival
- Original home of tiramisù!

Italian Course Venice : The School
The school is situated in a recently
renovated palace in the lively university area of Campo Santa
Margherita, right in the heart of Venice. Established in 1995,
it has 7 classrooms and a range of self-study facilities for
students after class. As well as being fully-qualified native
speakers, all staff speak another language in addition to Italian.
They employ a variety of teaching methods to cover not just
the linguistic side but also various aspects of Italian culture,
to enhance students' experience of living in another country
and learning a foreign language.
Out and About
Venice has 3 major canals but you should start by hopping on
vaporetto no.1 down the Grand Canal, their double decker bus
and Kings Road equivalent. Another big attraction not to be
missed is Piazza San Marco, or St Mark's Square, with its stunning
11th century Basilica. But it's off the tourist trail that you'll
find Venice's intricate, winding backstreets, leading to more
Gothic churches as well as all manner of markets, glass-makers
and quiet, sun-drenched squares - perfect places, and much kinder
to the pocket, for a well-deserved café stop. Each student
can participate in all the activities offered monthly by the
school.
Here is a sample monthly program: .
welcome party . bicycle ride around the Lido . guided tour of
the Accademia Gallery . walking tour through the Rialto fish
market . wine tasting in a local wine-bar . weekly screening
of an Italian film . train excursion to Vicenza to see Palladio's
work . walking tour to see traditional Venetian boats . a class
in traditional Venetian cooking . a guided tour of the Jewish
Ghetto . goodbye party Most activities are free of charge. Those
for which a fee will need to be collected are indicated in the
course details.
